How To Make A March Madness Bracket
by: Jake Berman
The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, more commonly known as March Madness, is kicking off this week, and everyone and their mother is making a bracket in an attempt to predict the road to the Final Four. if you’re anything like me, you don’t know a thing about college basketball, But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun with it. If you can’t pick based on your sports knowledge and the teams’ merit, there are still other ways to get in on the bracket making action. With March Madness being as insane and unpredictable as it is, you might just have a shot at winning your bracket pool. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Alphabetical: This one is pretty simple. Any given matchup is decided by which school comes first alphabetically. Looks like the 15 seed Abilene Christian University is winning the whole thing.
Mascot: Many of these types of brackets are based around the mascot, but there are a couple of different angles you could take. Which one’s cuter? Which one is a cooler color? Which one would win in a fight? My personal favorite is the latter, and I have another 15 seed, the Bradley Gargoyles winning it all in my own mascot bracket. How could you compete with something that came straight out of Harry Potter?
Volume is Key: You could be that one person who makes 19 brackets. Most of the time, people aren’t fans of these types of people, and they see it as a cheap way to maybe win one pool, but who knows? Maybe you’ll get one right.
Where you Would Go: A nice bonus for high schoolers that comes with March Madness is that they get exposed to a plethora of schools they may have never heard of before. While the culture here at CCA is Harvard, Stanford, or bust, there are some real gems hidden in the bracket. The only drawback is that it’s a tough choice between schools like Ole Miss and Oklahoma. Not exactly the best options. You can get a peek at a school’s sports culture as well.
While all of these are viable methods that could give you a decent shot at glory in your bracket, it really doesn’t matter in the end. The chances of getting a perfect bracket are in the quintillions, but this might just win you your pool.
