Since it is the start of a new school year, new and returning students alike should be reminded of the numerous extracurricular activities here at CCA. One of the easiest ways to add an extracurricular to your schedule is to join a club. Clubs are registered by students who have an idea for a student group. The variety of clubs means that it is almost guaranteed there will be something that you are interested in. Many clubs are focused on community service, which provides experience in volunteering. Other clubs are for having fun and can include film clubs and even a Dungeons and Dragons club!
If you have an interest in robotics or engineering, several school-sponsored, award-winning robotics teams can allow you to win competitions for CCA. The Aluminum Narwhals and the Robo Ravens are both teams of students that have consistently excelled in robotics competitions. Both teams have mechanical, coding, business, strategy, and marketing departments, so there are opportunities for students with a wide range of skills.
For students who are not as interested in a STEM club, you can also win competitions through the CCA Speech and Debate team. It allows members to exercise their public speaking abilities and gain confidence. The Speech and Debate team also allows students to participate in individual and group competitions to test the debate skills they develop in the club.
CCA also offers opportunities to give back to the school and help your peers. The CCA Peer Tutoring program allows students to request free peer tutoring in almost any subject. All you need to do is fill out a simple form to request a peer tutor. For many, having a tutor costs money, but at CCA any student can connect with a tutor for free. If you are interested in tutoring others, it is easy to apply and a great way to contribute to the community here on campus. Joining the CCA PALS is another way to help out. Any student can request to talk with a PAL for help with any issue. CCA PALS also organizes Community Day and other events throughout the school year.
In many ways, a student is defined more by their extracurricular activities than by the number of AP classes they take. For this reason, it is important to be aware of the opportunities offered at CCA. It is also possible for you to register your own club if you are interested. To stay informed about all the different extracurriculars offered, pay attention to the Daily Bulletin which often contains information about these various activities.
